Playing my legal copy of 'Dark Night' on my computer with PCLinuxOS copied to ram (can't do that in XP). In Winblows, the movie disk says I can get a 'legal' copy for my hard drive to watch, that of course, doesn't work, phht.

  • @ charliebrown0028...first of all, your nick is gay, what, are you 8 years old? Second, you missed the point moron, EVERYTHING of mine is LEGAL, my PC, my winbloze, the DVD and yet I couldn't play it EXCEPT IN FUGGING LINUX STUPID. Get a fugging clue.

  • Why in the hell copy the OS to the RAM?

  • Because it's extremely fast when the machine doesn't have to keep reading from an optical drive almost everytime you click on something. Smokin' fast and stable, way more stable than Xpoo poo. Won't even touch Vista with somebody else's computer, can't wait to see how crappy Winbloze 7 is. To put it simply, the memory sticks become the HD. ;-)

  • Forgot to mention I have Xpoo poo on the 4 drive Raid 0 and just wanted to see if I could 'work around' Microsh*t's DRM so I loaded the PCLinuxOS 'Live' CD to ram, not disturbing the 'hard drive' in the process. Ran PCLinuxOS exclusively for a whole year when I first built this machine but had third party software requirements which 'forced' me back to Winbloze. Will actually be going back to PCLinuxOS again because I no longer need aforementioned software much anymore. Loading on Raid, hmmm?

  • Before anybody asks, yes, there was a so-called bonus/free "Digital Copy". You put the disk in, it opens Internet Exploder and takes you to a web page where you are supposed to enter the 'key' number found on the packaging. I did that, nada, nothing, some lame error crap came up (apparently Warner Bros. sucks too, not just MS). So not only did I pay for the DVD, then I have to use MY INTERNET BANDWIDTH to download the digital copy, yes, my bandwidth usage is monitored and limited. :-/

  • i've tryed PCLinuxOS once didn't like it much cause of ammount of software it had on it... it felt like having whole repository installed on it.. maybe something changed...

  • When you look at a fully loaded Windhose or crApple machine, the OS and accompanying software take up numerous GB. Actually, a fully loaded Linux machine can have a smaller 'footprint' than a fully loaded Vista or XP machine so...at least with Linux, you don't have to worry about a huge/greedy corporation using you as a marketing tool with their built in 'spyware' (practically everything in Windhose wants to 'phone home' when you click on it).

  • never reboot

  • WOW what a f**ing achievement... now you are gonna tell me you can play mp3s too? And maybe 20 years from now yo´ull be able to play blu ray discs right? Very futuristic playing dvds on a pc man, Linux is the future indeed...

  • I had the same issue when I installed Xp, all I needed to do is install VLC and it worked fine. Windows Media Player with Vista and 7 plays them no problem (and I'm sure the same is true for OS X).

When I installed Ubuntu on my laptop, it was the ONLY thing that didn't work the way I wanted it to right away. Thankfully we have YouTube and video showed me where and how to download the codecs.

  • hell yeah ...linux is the future .

  • You know what is smaller than Linux? That is right! DOS! No need to worry about greedy corporation(greedy corporation is a redundancy)! It has a smaller footprint too! And it is free! What can go wrong?!?!?! It also has nothing that phones home.

MS does not use us as their marketing tool. We are their target demographic. Google on the other hand.... we are what is being sold . . . to companies for ad space. There we are the commodity. Do you not use google?

  • plan 9 is a troll

  • Oh no. It is using a whole 20 GB OUT OF MY 160 GB HD! WHAT WILL I DO!?!?!!

Dude, computers now days have so much space it is insane.
