Tim Minchin - Woody Allen Jesus

This very funny song was supposed to be broadcast on the Jonathan Ross Christmas Special Show before being pulled by the squeamish sphincters at the ITV as to not be featured on Points Of View. Tim has said that the idea was to compare Jesus to Woody Allen (short, Jewish, philosophical, a bit hesitant), and expand into redefining his other alleged attributes using modern, popular-culture terminology.
Woody Allen Jesus is a great Christmas song, and had we acquired it a few weeks earlier we would have put our Social Media Might into getting this in the charts for a poke at the Crimbo #1 spot.

He sings about wanting to kill his baby who won't stop crying. He sings about very probably having another wife instead of Sarah, if he didn't have her. The lyrics on those songs are funny and witty, and the piano music beautiful like this one. He takes what he finds reverent and sacred to himself and turns them inside out and upside down, just as much as he turns anything else inside out to have a look at it. The essence of a joke is to set something up, then pull out an unexpected twist.

Those complaining that Tim picks on Christianity, I can think of at least two songs satirising Islam (and Judaism) off the top of my head, and a whole comedy routine where he pulls out a beautiful edition of the Qu'ran and makes the audience nervous. He pokes fun at reiki, and homeopathy and all sorts of New Age stuff. More than anything he pokes fun and sings really "mean" things about his wife, and children, and you can tell he loves them dreadfully.
