I don't know how who is supposed to be the best with that timbre. He should step back with his change model decision. And I say this with all the respect as a former oboe student.

GENUIS !! PURE GENIUS!!

To me, his timbre at the beginning sounds like there is something blocking the airway in his oboe.

@stuffestuff I agree with you. I stopped by the Moennig booth frequently because I love the EH's. Albrecht's model of oboe is fantastic and I heard him play it in Carnegie hall. The sound was so wonderful.

I think the Moennig oboe is actually much richer sounding than the Greenline. I am at the IDRS conference right now and am working at the Innoledy Co. booth who is the American dealer of Moennigs (I make their pro reeds). We have 4 Moennigs here and I have played all of them a lot, along with trying about 10 different Greenlines in the past 2 days. I think if you heard Mr. Mayer in person, you might change your mind about his sound. He is also still adjusting to the oboe, since it is still new.

He should greatly switch to Marigaux for darkness or Rigoutat for singing..His play would sound much better than with Buffet or Moennig....

@kyblueeyes85 He is also playing oboe d'amore in this video (extract form Bach H-Moll Messe)
I prefer his sound on the Buffet as well...
