TVW Channel 7 in Perth, Western Australia

1966

Seven is Seven was the special program presented in Studio One to commemorate TVW's 7th anniversary. Almost 150,000 television set are licensed. Bill Gill is reading the News. Homicide becomes the first Australian drama series to achieve notable success.  The show made its premiere in Melbourne on 20th October, 1964, and soon after was screened nationally on the Seven Network for 510 episodes over the next 12 years. Trina Brown began with Seven. Carolyn Noble was back for a brief stay after the birth of her baby, while Trina was kept under cover as a production assistant, until Carolyn finally left. 


1967

Jeff Newman first appears on Seven. Veteran cinema newsreel and TV newsreader David Low joins TVW7. Hypnotist Martin St James and Spellbound hits the small screen, hosted by Garry Meadows. Prime Minister Harold Holt goes for a swim and disappears near Portsea in Victoria. Christain Barnard performs the first heart transplant. 


1968

The first annual Telethon with Johnny O'Keefe, Graham Kennedy, Bobby Limb and Stuart Wagstaff losing their shirts for a good cause. The Meckering earthquake was the big local story. Miss West Coast and later Miss Australia Beach Girl became regular annual events. Captain Jim, Seaman O'Doherty and Taffy the Lion roles finish as Children's Channel 7 paused after Children's Day at the Royal Show. Taffy made a final appearance on Telethon. While Carolyn Tannock (Noble) and her husband were in America, living in an apartment block opposite the university, they could see the armed National Guard attending to the riots, after the death of Martin Luther King [on April 4, 1968 (aged 39)]. Carolyn returned to Channel 7 in a Saturday morning children's show which contained a young talent quest, with a judging panel of Coralie Condon and Max Kay. This evolved into Stars of the Future.


1969

 Live coverage of the Apollo II moon landing. The investiture of Prince Charles as Prince of Wales. Jeff Newman hosts Letterbox. Beauty and the Beast with Stuart Wagstaff. Percy Penguin joins Trina Brown on Children's Channel Seven.


1970

Sandy Palmer hosts Early Birds and Children's Channel Seven. John Rennie provides his common man philosophy on life in the form of entertaining poetry.


1971

Disney on Parade comes to Perth. Fat Cat was created and hospital visits, street parades, charity functions, fetes, school and shopping centre appearances became a daily part of the Fat Cat's routine. Stephanie Quinlan's Today Show and Jeff Newman hosts It's Academic. TVW's national half hour children's variety program Stars of the Future which received Logie Awards in 1972, 1974, 1975 and 1976.


1972

Herb Elliott joined Syd Donovan for the Seven coverage of the Munich Olympics. Eight Israeli athletes were massacred at the Munich Olympic Games. Federal Labor wins office for the first time in 23 years under Gough Whitlam. Tony Barber hosts Temptation. The first Christmas Pageant is launched as is the Young Film Makers' Awards. The first ever Swapmeet took place at Midland Oval.
