Although Zachary had extreme health challenges, he never complained, he was always happy, and he loved to have fun. Zachary was highly intelligent and it seemed he was indeed the leader of our family and that is why we called him “Boss”.

His faith in God and his courageous life inspired thousands of people. Zachary truly was a servant for his fellow man. He was involved in numerous fund raising efforts for charitable organizations including Southwest Service Dogs and The Progeria Research Foundation. With his mother and “Hobbs, the service dog”, Zachary spoke to elementary school classes and taught them about children with special needs and to celebrate the fact that we are all different. He encouraged children to be compassionate, understanding, and to develop friendships with special needs children. The boy who looked shockingly different and had severe physical limitations suddenly became loved and admired by the children he spoke to. Teachers commented on the impact this had for the other special needs children as well.

He embraced each day with great enthusiasm. Some of his favorite activities were: • School • Church • Parties • Shopping • Driving his power wheelchair • Computer games • Animals at the zoo • Boating, fishing, hunting • Vacations with his family • And most of all saying his prayers each night as we prepared for bed.

Zachary was much more than a son to us all. He gave us constant inspiration and taught us what life is really about. His inspirational abilities only increased with each day of his life. This is certainly one of the things we miss the most. Old At Age 3 is about Zachary’s inspiring life. It contains the journal kept by Zachary's father over the last 2 years of his life and gives an example of how the family lived through tragedy relying on their faith.
