In my opinion 'Suite For Pops' presents particular interpretive problems for the contemporary soloist - The suite is, after all, dedicated to Louis Armstrong. So perhaps a post-mainstream; hard-bop; modal; free approach etc. was felt to be inappropriate.
In my opinion the piano solo is hardly 'state of the art' either.
For me both soloists appear to be favoring 'devices', maybe they were attempting to give their contributions the correct 'character'?
....Whatever.

She's terrible. You can tell she has ideas, but she's just too slow figuring out the notes and finding all the correct positions. She sounds too unconfident.

Oh yeah, I forgot to explain WHY I disliked her playing.
There isn't enough power, varying dynamics, interesting phrases to keep me interested.
She isn't a bad trombonist at all, just not up to the task of being a Thad Jones BB soloist, in my humble opinion.
