Hate Is A Strong Word Ch. 48

Kaitlyn's POV
Everything was so quiet. Like the eerie kind of quiet that I can't stand. I couldn't place the smell or the feel of where I was either. And I was instructed to keep my eyes closed. So I tried my hardest to figure out where I was. I had no idea what was going on or where I was going. The only thing I knew for sure, was how great Nick's hands felt in mine as he dragged me to our destination.
"Keep your eyes closed," He said, for the millionth time.
"They're closed, they're closed!" I echoed, smiling.
"Okay," He said before I heard the unlatching of a door.
I saw the lights flicker on from the inside of my eyelids and fought the urge to open my eyes.
"Careful..." He warned as I hit an unidentified object. "Okay, open."
When I opened my eyes, I was so surprised to find that we were standing in our German class... The last place I would have ever suspected.
I looked up at him skeptically and said, "School? How... romantic?"
He chuckled. "Just wait. You'll love this. Here, sit," He gestured to my assigned seat in class, and I obeyed. "Now," He started, walking away from me and over to his assigned seat. What's this kid doing? "Do you want to hear a cool story?"
I turned to face him, and felt really awkward, considering he sits two rows diagonally behind me. "You just have to tell me the story from all the way back there? What's going on?" I asked.
"Can you just tell me you want to hear the story?" He raised his eyebrows.
"I want to hear the story."
He glanced up at the clock and sighed. "Well, actually, we have to wait a little. Just until 1:23."
"You're really weird. You know that?" Four minutes, I thought to myself.
"Just wait, you'll change your mind," He laughed.
"You do know that we are not allowed to be here right now, and the longer we stay here, the more of a chance we have of getting caught. And seriously, if I get caught I swear-"
"Kait! We're not going to get caught. Can you loosen up a little?"
There it was. That cute smile he always gave me. The one that I always gave in to. Every time I saw that smile, I've smiled back. And I've always melted just looking at it.
"Okay, can you at least just explain to me why we're here?" I asked desperately.
"Hey, go with the flow." And that's all he said. This kid is driving me crazy. He's so confusing. But even though I hate not knowing what's going on... it puts the excitement into everyday life.
Then we sat in silence. Until I saw the clock turn to 1:23 and Nick spoke up.
"Ready?" He asked, and I nodded eagerly. "This is the exact time, place and day of the week... when I realized that I loved you," He stared at me as all of my breath immediately escaped my body.
My mouth then transformed from a surprised, wide-open mouth, to a full on, cheerful smile. I didn't say anything though, because I could tell he wasn't finished.
"You sat there in a t-shirt and skinny jeans with your hair pulled back. And you were picking off the perforated edges of your papers. And I don't know, something just clicked," He explained.
"You remembered all of that?" I choked out.
Then, he got up and walked over to the desk next to me and sat down. "I might not have that great of a memory, but I will always remember things about you," He smiled at me.
I smiled back. "Oh yeah? When's my birthday?"
"November 9th." He said with confidence.
I shrugged and rolled my eyes. "Lucky guess."
"Oh yeah, that's exactly what that was," He said sarcastically while taking my hands into his.
"You're really sweet," I told him softly as I inched closer to him.
"See I was right, you did change your mind."
"Nope, you're still weird," I said before planting a passionate kiss on his soft lips, wrapping my arms around his neck. Then I pulled away so that we were just inches apart, and said, "But I still love you."
"I love you too."
