@colliecandle One of the bridge buttresses is still visible on the opposite side of the A37 from Pensford station approach, so I know exactly where it was, just not what it looked like...and the again in M-s-N, it's obvious where the bridge was, but as you travel on Silver Street now, it looks like the road level has been raised considerably!

Thanks so much for this video of total nostalgia.I worked in Casswells Radstock in 1963 when I was 15 and immediately recognized the man at 08.10.Sometimes he would invite me at lunchtime for a cup of tea in the signal box and I would eat my sandwiches or chips. He was very friendly and was Welsh. He would sometimes let me turn the huge wheel to open the large gates to stop the traffic. What a nostalgic video and also thanks to Mike Arlett.
Congratulations again.

Thanks for posting this cracking series of films. To answer the question about if it had remained open, just look at the cross country line through Moreton in the March. Beeching wanted it closed, but the locals fought tooth and nail and kept it open, albeit singled. Its so busy now its been doubled again at great cost to the taxpayer. Had the S&D remained open I wouldn't be suprised if the single section south of Bath would now be an operational bottleneck.
You are correct in saying the road level has been raised at midsomer, also road was widened after the railway was demolished. There were/are talks of reinstating the Silver St bridge, but it will cost conservatively, 1million for the project, even if the appropriate authorities agree to such a plan....but Im afraid this will never materialise especially as the worlds economies are 'crashed' - there will be no money for things like this or I suspect, on preserved railways in general unfortunately

Don't suppose anyone has any photos of how the over bridge at Midsomer Norton looked, viewed from the road??? Or indeed the bridge over the A37 at Pensford station???

@smiffy1071 Sorry, no photo's, but I can remember the bridge at Midsomer well - I have travelled under it on many an occassion - it was a very substantial red brick skew arch.
As for the o/bridge at Pensford, that was a steel girder construction atop two masonary piers (again skewed) I have actually walked the line over this bridge AND the viaduct itself whilst there were still occassional trains running ! You should be able to source the photos you want from archive material.
