they didnt lift the under carriage for some 18mins after takeoff as they weren't sure how the old girl would react, when they did she was as good as gold (I spoke to one of the engineers whilst on a open day at bruntingthorpe)
I did read a quote from Al McDicken, the pilot, somewhere that they did actually test the landing gear. In fact, if you look carefully at the live Sky footage of the flight, which is on You Tube somewhere, you can just see the gear being lifted a couple of minutes into the flight.
Hi Howard, it seemed to be permanently down for the whole 2 flypasts. I don't know the reason for this. Have you found the vulcan forums yet? Plenty of discussions on there.
