How to FIX: Windows Firewall options are grayed out. Unable to Turn on of Turn off Firewall.

This method will work on XP PRO.
Click Start
Run and type Gpedit.msc
Press ENTER or OK.

Navigate to the following branch:

Computer Configuration (Double click to Open)
Administrative Templates (Double click to Open)
Network (Double click to Open)
Network Connections (Double click to Open)
Windows Firewall (Double click to Open)
Standard Profile (Double click to Open)

Set the following options to Not Configured (defaults)

Windows Firewall: Protect all network connections (Double click to Open)

can anyone help. after downloading microsoft updates, the firewall turned off and i can no longer get on the internet. using win xp home ed sp2

omfg thanks you alot.

it worked.

although mine was already not configured when i did this method so i clicked enabled then did apply and then went back to it then hit not configured then hit apply and the firewall is now on!
