A Balitaw composition by Jose G. Santos with lyrics by Jose Corazon de Jesus. Interpreted and recorded by Ruben Tagalog during the early 60's. Paintings by Fernando Amorsolo (except for the first image of two women wearing traditional "Maria Clara" attire).

  • Although I appreciate art, especially that of Filipino artists like Amorsolo, I quite disagree with the slide show showing these nude filipinas being shown together with the song, Ang Dalagang Pilipina, lyrcs of which is exactly the opposite of the paintings of the said dalagang Pilipina. (Disregard that I do understand what is meant to be portrayed here in terms of art). It is just that what I hear and what I see do not exactly match :D

  • @xyronsimon : The paintings depicts Filipina maidens in their innocence. It only becomes "the opposite" if you put malice to these nude paintings (-̮̮̃-̃).

  • @xyronsimon ... just like many things within human experience, nudity can & will evoke art or malice depending on what CONTEXT the beholder can provide to the viewing experience.

  • @edsnantonio: I totally agree. Thanks for your comment.

  • The lyrics tells all. That,s what Pilipina are.

  • @Elpidiodeguz: what used to be.... before they were Americanized :)

  • The great Fernando Amorsolo painted Filipina women nude, as representation of their INNOCENCE. aND it is different from the word IGNORANCE which is represented by some people who commented below.

  • Sir, maybe you are pointing to the Filipino women of the Spanish period. But the real image of a Filipino women was basically that nude. Its the Pre-Spanish period.

  • Maganda song.

  • Going on vacation in the town of my grandfather in Bulacan, I never so any girl taking a bath that would show any part of the body that should not be seen. As an artist Amorsolo just used the background, I do not even know if the nude girls are his paintings, many artists copied his style.

  • The painting is beautiful.let's just put it that way.and forget about the lyrics in this song. There are still Filipinas who epitomize Maria Clara.I love the song and am learning to sing it.Thanks for the posting.

  • Filipina women are very innocent in the past, oh I remembered what my teacher asked us he asked "Ano nang nangyari sa pagiging Konserbatibo ng mga Filipina?"

I think it is very rare to see some Filipina women with that attitudes :D

  • Nakakalungkot lang isipin na tulad ng mga dating Pilipina and mga kababaihan ngayon. Napaka-bihira nalang nila at madalas (palagay ko) nasa probinsya nalang sila. Hay.... >.>, Thanks for the upload anyway. =P
