I tried my bit of research on trying to hook up my Akai MPK-49 (which I got a few days ago) with Cubase but I could not find much. After putting bit by bit together I eventually got my keyboard synced with Cubase.

If you got your Akai MPK-49 Second-Hand/Used and you are NOT provided with the disks and system files. You can get them here under the "Docs & Downloads" Section:
http://www.akaipro.com/mpk49

If you guys have LATENCY/DELAY PROBLEMS:

In the starting,it may be really frustrating trying to get your keys to sync with your vst. It will give you a 0.5-1 second delay. After you install everything, obviously restart your computer, open Cubase. If that does not work then keep messing around with it,sometimes it could be your head just messing with you. But if your ears are precise and you know theres a delay, restart Cubase and keep trying. The MIDI controller is trying to sync with your soundcard because many soundcards have a higher capcity than others so really it's just trying to get used to it. If you don't have the best soundcard, lower your soundcard buffer rate.

I would really appriciated it if you guys could just check out my single since I tried to the best of my ability to give you guys some help.

  • You probably wont be able to answer this, but it's worth the try. Do you know how to use the Akia MPK49 with adobe audition? Is it even possible. I wanna be able to use the sliders to mix in aa3 but haven't been able to find out how. Please get back to me on this if possible.

  • @MurkEDProductions Hey brotha, hows it going? As a matter of fact,I can answer this for you. Your Akai MPK-49 will not work on adobe audition. The reason being is that first off, adobe audition is a multitrack recording program. Whereas programs like Cubase are Advanced music production programs. I would not suggest producing out of adobe audition. My reccomendations would be to use Cubase,FL Studio,Reason,Pro Tools or anything like that :) Hope this helped :)

  • How is this in comparison to the M-AUDIO AXIOM 49 .

  • @synth77 to be honest i dont know as much about that one but from the looks of it,I'd go with the Akai just because there are 12 drum pads and this one only has 8. The axiom 49 has 9 faders and the mpk 49 has 8 but the faders are much bigger on the mpk and thats a good thing cause you want to be comfortable while making your mix,you don't want to be frustrated and be crunching up your fingers for every fader. Modwheels on the aixom are really small. Like I said, its about being comfortable.

  • Do u need 2 pc's? And do they have to be apple?

  • @bebesitoish I only have two monitors, not PC's. When it comes to the PC and Mac debate. It really depends on your budget. You can never get cracks for Mac. So if your going to do it ilegally (which I wont reccomend),it's almost impossible on a mac.

  • so this is plug and play on cubase? does it have appregiators and do the knobs have the effects on it or is it just controlling vsts?

  • I use nuendo, i was just wondering if i can use the cubase presets to run my nuendo. I tried the same method but with my nuendo program but it just didnt work.

  • i Can't download that preset files for Akai. Can you uipload this?

  • what cable did you connect from your akai to computer? midi in, midi out or USB?

  • First: thanks for the upload.

I don't know if you can help me out here. I have a problem with hooking up my MPK49 with Cubase using a M-Audio FireWire 410 sound card.

Well, I tried to follow your "guide", but still there is no sound. In my own opinion, everything should be connected and installed properly. When I turn on Cubase 5 and my MPK49, I can see that there's connection because there's MIDI activity (the orange bar that you are talking about at 4:17.

    Do you have any ideas?

    Many thanks.

  • you speak all!
