This is part two of a 17:41 minute video I made by combining multiple different media of the jam from the Montreux Jazz Festival on July 7, 1973. There is no complete version of the performance of 'treux Bleu until now. Unfortunately, it exceeds YouTube's maximum length so I had to split it into part 1 and part 2 so you could view it. The audio will vary due to the multiple sources in order to reconstruct the true sequence, especially during Gene Ammons' solo which was truncated on Prestige P-10078. I have done this purely for historical accuracy and hope it is meaningful to fellow Cannonball fans.

  • gotta love how Cannonball played wit the Cig intact!! lol

  • Jug (Ammons) looked he was very hiiigh in this video!

  • @brambau Well it sure didn't work.

  • Interesting Cannon is coming in with and Ornetteish/Traneish semi out solo. He's trying hard to push the envelope and show he's more advanced then Dex and Gene. But Hampton and the rest of the rhythm section are not going that way so it doesn't come off as Julian wanted. Kenny Clarke is very swinging here. To me Crenshaw on bass is playing it a little too straight.

Jackie mac should have been there

  • On 3:37 the man who laughs is Jack Nicholson...

  • cannon is singing .

  • This is 'Cannon' really cutting loose with all the time and space he needs. Largely gone are the gospel licks he was associated with for so long, replaced by an atonal 'walking the edge' of the harmonic progression. I loved his earlier stuff and I love this particular era of his playing just as much. An enormous talent - accompanied by other enormous talents here at Montreux. Thanks for posting.
