this really resembles an ajax motor, what is this mainly used for? is it used on pumping units? im a roustabout and i have never come across anything like this except for an ajax. cool video though thank you

yes used very early, 1900's to actually drill the well then to pump it, but instead of pumping one well it would pump 3 or 4 off of one engine.
it used a bunch of cables run through the woods to pump different wells

Are Reids 2 cycle, or split cycle?
How does the chaarging cylinder play into it?
RustyCarnahan 2 years ago
Reids are 2cyl, which means no valves, it relys on the charging cylinder to push out the exhaust fumes plus push air and the gas charge into the main cylinder.
In between the charge and main cylinder is a transfer valve. Basically it is a one way valve.
it lets fresh air and the gas charge pass into the main, but when the main piston comes up on compression it won't let it blow back into the charging cylinder.

Is the hot-tube a cylinder preheater?

it is the ignition for engine. instead of a spark plug. it uses the hot to to detonate the propane mixture. The hotter it is the sooner detonates, the cooler it is the slower it detonates. that's how you time it.
