Made in 1971, this is a dramatic account of the work of the UK Warning and Monitoring Organisation, whose responsibilities included monitoring the spread of fallout.

    "...some silly ass fell down..."

  • Only 7 days in shelter? They'd be undergoing some major radio activity hits from fallout. Well they could have been out for a short period after a week. But they looked ready to restart civilization.

  • Yikes. Scary. Horrifying. That guy's toupee, I mean.

  • Radiation decays at a ten-fold rate every seven hours. What this means is that in one week radioactivity would be only one twenty-fourth as great as it was one hour after detonation of a nuclear bomb.

One hour after detonation, local fallout would be coming down at 1000 rads per hour - fatal for any length of exposure. In one week, it's just 41 rads.

Therefore you could leave your fallout shelter for a very short period of time one week after the initial explosion.

  • Nuclear fallout decays significantly in 7 days, reaching acceptable levels, although it takes 14 days for it to decay to a safe level

  • *cough* what are you talking about, everything is *cough* Fine *hunches over in pain* Ahhh, its nothing, just a cramp ahhhh *collapses and dies*
