@DMaustrap "That hack"? Oh, you mean the Oscar-winning "hack" who has worked with Terrence Malick, Nicolas Roeg, Werner Herzog, Christopher Nolan, Peter Weir, Mike Nichols, Steven Spielberg, Bernardo Bertolucci, John Boorman, Bille August, John Schlesinger, and of course Ridley Scott.
Wow, "that hack" sure attracts a lot of talented people. I wonder how he does it?
Sorry for my volatile rant. The score can be found on You Tube,a few have posted the 2 CD set that was released awhile ago. I also love to write, but let the music give you the feel for a scene, don't let it TELL you what to add or remove from the story.
There are composers on You Tube that have links to their portfolio work, just need to search high and low.
Where can you hear Goldsmith's original score to Alien? I'm new to all this, but as a screen writer and fan I feel that music IS the ultimate special effect. How does one find a non hack to do music scores?
What a load of crock, he screwed around with Goldsmiths score to Alien, then completely hacked then removed Goldsmiths score from Legend, and added that "hacks" ripoff of Holst The Planets for Gladiator. He seriously needs to learn to LISTEN to his composers. All though with Goldsmith gone, who's gonna say NO to Scott. No one because they are mostly hacks now.
If he really sees music as a storyteller then he should think more on the OVERALL leitmotif structure. He uses temptrack an AWFUL lot:'Gladiator' is really all Prokofiev, Holst, Wagner, Vangelis. Mr. Scott has both the virtues and failings of being still in 'advertising' mindset. Ads just need short stings, no development. Here he talks only about MOOD pieces to fit, scene by scene as in advertising. Humble enough to know he's no musician, he clearly overrides composers' instincts.
