I did Route 50 about 7 years ago and got nicked in Nevada for speeding, but turned my accent up to max (I'm English) and got away with it... Didn't read anything before we did the trip about trouble on this stretch of road, or the brothels that pop up here and there...

In the late 90's, I drove this road in the middle of the night. On the border of Nevada and Utah, right before morning, I decided to stop in the middle of the road, walk to the back, take off my old clothes, and put on new ones for the next day drive. Totally nude. and noone saw me change clothes.

wow nice Video...it would be nice to go back in Time when US Routes were still the Main Roads of America, and the interstates didnt Exist yet.

there's a lot more traffic on that road than i imagined. thanks for the video, i'd love to take a long trip on a little two lane road through the west like that.
Are there gas stations along this road ? If your car is a bit more "thirsty" what do you do ?

@ionut26193 There are a couple here and there. Just make sure you fill up at the cantina on the Utah/Nevada border on 50 before you venture westward. Also, you may want to be armed. We were not, but we did have some close calls. Remember, the rule of law ends approximately 5 miles west of Ely, NV and doesn't begin again until just before Reno.

@ReverendDeuce Hi, could you explain the "you may want to be armed" part?

@doubleT84 US 50 is a barren, desolate stretch of highway through one of the last states in the country where, from what I understand, the vast majority of the land is completely outside the rule of law. Apparently, within 100 feet of the highway it is still within the US jurisdiction, but because the state is so large it's practically impossible to enforce, so you risk getting robbed (or worse). I'm told that the ferals usually flee at the crack of the boomstick. Usually.

Could you tell me if there is a speed limit on here? I know it's kinda a stupid question, but I want to get sure, haha. :-)

Well, there technically are speed limits, but we did most of the trip between 90-110 MPH for the whole afternoon and never saw one highway patrol vehicle at all (car is an '06 Infiniti M35). It's so desolate, it would take them half a day to get anywhere to setup a speed trap. Far more profitable to set them up along I-80 than this barren road.
