Hitler's army thundered through Europe from 1939 to 1945 and brought needless death and destruction to the continent. What was it like to serve in this army? What was it like to conduct one of the bloodiest wars in history? What was it like to occupy half of Europe and yet to suffer total defeat?

This five-part portrait provides long-awaited answers to questions such as these and sheds light on the Wehrmacht's complex bonds of loyalty, conscience and honour. It is a thought-provoking story of an army's evolution from defense troops to military force to exterminating power.

  • Damn, Hitler you idiot.

  • Jesus Christ, the Dunkirk myth continues to be distributed as truth.

  • @peepfromsheff why would attacking moscow with full force have won the war? how would it turn out different then stalingrad and even if they did take the city as napolean did, why would the red army stop fighting?

  • Never underestimate the Soviet Union/Russians ESECIALLY during winter..

  • why do generals of all nations seem to be so spineless?

  • hitler ruined his own war. 0.0

  • @NgJackal1990 That's hindsight, if Guderian had been wrong and the allies had been able to attack his flank, the entire offensive would have collapsed

  • Mmmm if I am not mistaken it was Gerd von runstedt ( A ) that commanded the halt, but since hitler agreed that it was important to preserve the armored units strength for the second part of the invasion of france ( fall rot ), people later thought it was hitler that gave the command.

  • @scassidy0526 dun dun dunnnnnnnnnnnn
