Ahh, youtube commentors on a controversial, farsighted subject. Anyone who puts up a video of a subject like this, especially a professional one, should either go through their accepted comments, or disable them completely.

Then again, it's probably just a storage location for the video on their website, and they don't care.

As commented on the other upload: Fantastic! I'm confident that this will bring many important breakthroughs.

Boingboing reports that the course materials will indeed be under Creative Commons Attribution license. This is perhaps thinking too much into it, but what MIT's Opencourseware lacks is a community.

Innovation and problem solving are team sports, so I wonder if they will try to explicitly build a global community around the project.

Provide the right tools and let leadership emerge...

Much of the constructive criticism that the project received was concentrating on the apparent lack of attention to the social impacts of accelerating change, and in general to the community aspects of teaching, learning, and applying technical knowledge to society in a very proper feedback loop.

I am sure that the group managing the direction that the Singularity University is taking will consider, and take advantage of these suggestions.

What about politics of accelerating technological change? Our governments are already using these technologies against us. Basicly all the new laws concerning the new technlogies are made to benefit only the big corporations.

I greatly applaud both the work of Ray Kurzweil along with NASA and Google to establish for the first time the Singularity University dedicated to the teaching and research of the many important facets (A.I, Nanotechnology, robotics, etc)that will underly the upcoming trend that will eventually culminate into the Singularity, I think will be one of the most profound trends in all of human evolution.

@jimisru I think you expressed this thought very clearly. However, if mankind does not reach toward the future, singularity, then we resign ourselves to the overwhelming challenges of the present and eventually either extinction via Nature or our own hand (e.g., a war, etc.). Consider that singularity is not only a physical advance, but in a holistic sense could include superior wisdom and judgment as well, which would correspond to your concerns.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself. It is people's fear of technology that illicit government agency's use to wrest control from us. And this is always difficult for them to do. Because the economics of technology is that the more people it benefits, the more lucrative it is.

My definition of the singularity is that moment at which technology solves our problems, fulfills our desires, as fast as we can voice them. That ability isn't imminent, but it isn't that far off either.

Only technology,commited to the VENUS PROJECT, and not be the servants of the corperations who will abuse such Technology for their own limited aims and profits. Have any real benifits for the world..Labour is dying in the advanced societies,and we need these people to service a new age and new cities designed by technology.Not to help the Capitalists.The Capitalist system can not survive without human labour. Machines in their place will reduce the population.
