Campaigners from the international coalition End Water Poverty delivered more than 80,000 petitions to Downing St, urging Gordon Brown to prioritise water and sanitation at the 2009 G8 Conference in Italy. They also carried yellow jerry cans filled with water from the Thames to highlight the fact that for millions of people dirty river water is still their main source of drinking water.

  • Fantastic work WaterAid! Safe water, basic sanitation and hygiene education form essential foundation blocks for healthy and thriving communities worldwide. Civilised man knows this full well so the continued lack of these resources for umpteen millions around the globe is an utter disgrace: shame on those who fail to act and force a change!

  • I think it's great that volunteers and campaigners gave up their time to highlight such an important cause. If only more people would commit to Ending Water Poverty.

  • Great video and cause. Have published on BeMoreEco and twitter

  • This is great - sit up and take notice Gordon!

  • Important message that should be heard by all. WaterAid really do some fantastic work.

  • This is amazing, well done WaterAid for highlighting such an important message. 4,000 a day seems needless. I hope Gordon Brown listens.
