Mountain gospel song recorded by Ralph Stanley; also by Patty Loveless. The basis for the allegory presented by this old song can be found in Ephesians 4: 21-24 and in I Corinthians 15:47-49. When you think about it what's the choice? Why do we so want to hang onto our "old coat?" Lack of trust? Lack of faith? We have actually nothing worthwhile to lose, and everything to gain.

  • Glenn, this is awesome!!! I can tell you live what you sing. I look forward to more of your posts. Thanks! Ricky

  • @songster99 Thank you, Ricky.

  • I love hearing aand singing shirley's song,, Wait a little longer Jeaus, where are you from? I was born in wild west virginia and my father, his five slibings has a ban back in the fourties and fifites and I used to listen to them sing and play ,along with grandpa playing "over the Waves"on his fiddle way into the early mornigns. your picking and singing remind me of them,, thanks! glenda

  • @glendagail1 Thank you, Glenda. I was raised where the Piedmont meets the Blue Ridge in N.C. I have very similar memories of home and my dad playing his banjo. He used a very old style of picking, thumb and first finger only. As a kid I did not respect the tradition that he upheld. I wish I could go back and study with him. We get too soon old and too late smart.

  • Christian music as it should be! Great great job!

  • @don62snodgrass You're very kind, Don. Thank you. No one knows my shortcomings more than me, but I love singing hymns to my Best Friend, and I'm grateful for every day He gives me.
