These train cars were parked on a siding on the Carrizo Gorge Railroad near the old Dos Cabezas water tower. These train cars were literally brand-new! They showed NO signs of wear or tear.

  • Just there this weekend, no cars and no signs of recent use anywhere from Goat Canyon back to the watertower. Small landslide over part of the tracks around tunnel 19 (I believe) as well.

  • @paleorob Thanks for the update! How big was that landslide covering the tracks? We hiked out to the trestle from the Jacumba end this past fall. Eight miles one-way! Killer hike! Passed through ten tunnels along the way before arriving at the Goat Canyon trestle. Well worth it, though. Video is on my channel if you want to check it out.

  • do u have videos of jacumba yard

  • @fhood Not big, but certainly would require a couple days work to clear. I've got pictures (that I'd sorting through ATM), and I'll post a link once they're online.

No matter which way you hike it (Jacumba/Mortero Canyon/Indian Hill), it is certainly an effort to get out there. I will check out your video, thanks for the heads up.

  • on 8/23 & 8/24 I rode my mt bike on the tracks from Ocotillo to Jacumba, no signs of recent usage, the tracks are completely rusted. The new cars aren't there either, just some old stuff from the 60s and 70s on the siding a mile south of Jacumba and more cars on teh siding about 5 miles south of Jacumba. It's an awesome ride, I highly recommend. Just bring lots of water.... it was 115 on 8/23, 118 degres on 8/24.

  • Since the line through the gorge is not in use right now, CZRY leases the sidings like Dos Cabezas to other railroads for storage.

  • Hey neogeek79 did you see any evidence of trains being run recently? Shiny tracks, etc. I'm nervous bout sharing a tunnel with a train

  • Wow, I didn't realize that those had been out there for so long. I was just out there last weekend to hike to Goat Canyon and the cars were there. They've been tagged a little bit here and there, but after all of the rain they looked just as shiny and new as before.
