Hello viewers!

In this video, I describe step-by-step my washing and detangling routine.

Here are a list of tools I take in the shower:

1) Shampoo and or Conditioner of choice + an inexpensive conditioner for use as a detangling creme. In this vid, I'm using Giovanni's line of products and Trader Joes Nourish Spa.

2) Butterfly clips - To secure parted sections

3) Hair prongs - To section off detangled sections

4) Wide tooth detangling Comb - To use after detangling with my fingers FIRST.

5) Drain Hair Catcher - to keep shedded hair from clogging drains and to collect hair in order to examine it

6) Handheld mirror - in order to see tangles or knots in your hair

7) Trimming scissors - to trim knots when necessary

STEP 1 - I saturate my hair with water (Note: if I am clarifying my hair, I'll use mixture containing 10% Apple Cider Vinegar mixed with 90% water, please know this ratio varies to person to person. It larger depends on how much YOU and your hair can stand! And I don't clarify with every wash, only when I've got product build-up. In this case, it was Cantu Shea Butter Leave-In)

STEP 2 - I wash my hair with WARM to very warm water, not too hot though

STEP 3 - Apply detangling creme (your cheap conditioner) to you hair and begin to divide it into four sections

STEP 4 - Now that your hair is secured in four sections, start the detangling process. I always use my fingers to detangle first. I apply more detangling creme if necessary and allow the water to run through my hair in order to tease out tangles and free my shedded hair

STEP 5 - After the section is detangled I TWO STRAND TWIST it into smaller parts (sometimes 4 twists per section)

Repeat until entire head is detangled and two strand twisted. Takes me approximately 15-20 mins per section. I take my time!

STEP 6 - I go back and apply my DEEP CONDITIONER to my hair. I just unravel each twist , saturate them with my deep conditioner and retwist them. This shouldn't take very long since your hair is already detangled. Approximately 5-10 minutes

STEP 7 - I place a shower cap over my hair and either wrap a towel on top of it for 45 mins OR I sit under my hair dryer (with the cap still on) for 25 mins.

STEP 8 - I rinse out the deep conditioner from my twists with very COOL water to close the cuticles. This will help your hair to become smoother.

STEP 9 - I place a dry towel on my head to soak up excess water. I do NOT shake the towel over my head!

STEP 10 - I unravel each twist, apply leave-in conditoner and separate them into smaller twists for STRETCHING my hair.

TOTAL TIME: 3 - 3.5 hours from start to finish
