  • yes please

  • He sounds posh. But that may be because it's from 1965 ;)

  • Seems like a nice conductor to "his"people, ofcourse he was aware that the recording was being made....The 60's the time of interesting 45's....@3.30....LOL"..en niet op Uw eigen houtje etc.

Nice piece of history, thank you for sharing.

  • it's up to you, if you'd like to translate it; it's quite a bit to translate. But it would be nice!

  • Yes, I agree that his English is very good. He is also fluent in German, by the way. Old school education and dignity ;-)

  • Would you like to have it translated?

  • Yoko and I went the other day to a performance with this great master of Beethoven in the KKL in Lucerne. Inspite of the small orchestra Haitink was able to give his all and that at his age.Unforgettable!

  • You're probably right, but at least today I can understand everything Haitink says.

Most importantly, in his music. And in his communication with his orchestra, wherever it might be.

It's also probably an over-estimation that every American's or Englisman's "English" is perfect. Especially in the case of the former, including me sometimes.

  • Thanks for the compliment, but it is a little overestimated to say that every dutchman's English is perfect. Let's just say a large population is able to communicate in English.

The fact that he talks Dutch instead of English has more to do with the fact that the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra had almost only Dutch musicians back then. Nowadays that's of course very different.

  • His English is perfect, just like most people from The Netherlands. He just didn't know he would wind up on YouTube 43 years later.
