Shioda Sensei is a great example of how an Akidoka should be quick on footwork, while maintaining a solid link to the ground. Fluid at times, unmovable at times.

For those that talk about MA "working" in real life: the mistake fighters make is the inability to distinguish pre-emptive fighting (rules, guard up, toe-to-toe) with spontaneous fighting (no rules, no ring, no time-out). Aikido and most other martial arts are not designed for pre-emptive/ring fighting. In life you don't get a clean floor, a referee, clear space and a warmup... you get unpaid bills, a bad day at work, your wife leaving you and some idiot tries to mug you...

@MrPinoy91 hmmm i do not agree with the second part of your comment. the uke will not fall because he wants to . he will fall because you lead his energy into another direction . it wont work if he doesnt attack you properly. if he is really attacking you then you can redirect his energy. but its not like he wants to fall down

Its well documented that many samurai saw women as for making babies and men for pleasure. They were probably pedos like their contemporary Greeks.

I've forced a shihonage on a real attacker and it wasn't pretty. Uke ended up with irreparable damage. Not that I care like a pajama wearing aiki bunny does. I follow the budo path and if you attack me you get what you get. Hell, you'll probably get my kung fu. It's not as nice, but its easier,
I don't take Aikido...but i know it works. People don't believe it because of the unreal looking flips.
THaT'S TRUE THE FLIPS AREN'T GOING TO LOOK ALL FANCY AND COOL LIKE THAT IN REAL LIFE. THe people who do the flips are trainned aikido masters who are trainned to follow the flow.
They rather flip and land without hurting themselves then take a broken wrist or arm.(wouldn't you)

student asks "what is the most powerful technique in Aikido?" Shioda answeres "To befriend the one who has come to kill you"...
which is easier? to hurt or love someone? In it's externality, it is seen as a self-defence technique, but in it's internality, there lies a spirit of love and wholeness, an ultimate attainment of "human" in us... above our beast.
