Maestro...

Had he ended up in a Williams in 1980 then sure, no doubt.
Reports said he was unhappy in being 2nd driver in Lotus (but respected Chapman's wishes for '78) so he was about to sign for McLaren in 1979. The 1979 McLaren was one of their worst cars they ever had, and John Watson loathed it. Had Peterson stayed with McLaren he might have won the title in 1982, since Watson only lost it with 5 points that year.
Reportedly Brabham wanted to sign him too for 1979-1980.

No. Mario Andretti was Lotus' first driver. So Chapman wanted: Andretti first, Peterson second.

of course

Do you think Peterson could've won the World Championship had he not died?

I was red, white and blue that day.

The old Kylami was a fabulous circuit but part of it has now been built upon. The shots here show what a fabulous view spectators got of the race cars going round the circuit rather like the Indy circuit at Brands Hatch. Shame it is no longer.

riccardo patrese should have won this race. bloody arrows and their shit cars!
btw, the kyalami design shouldn't have changed
Fastest driver Formula One has seen, turn right, steer left! People remember him in the JPS Lotus, six wheeler Tyrell or that horrible 'tea tray' March, but I'll always remember Monza '76 when everyone said he was past it, winning in that blue and yellow March 761, RIP SuperSwede!

Patrese blew up with the race in the bag, Andretti was behind Depailler but then started to run out of gas so he let SuperSwede off the leash. Ronnie hunter Depailler down and passed him on the last lap. Brilliant. We still miss you Ronnie.
