No trip to Scotland would be complete without a visit to a distillery. The Glen Ord distillery was founded in 1828 in the Muir of Ord. There were local farms that could provide the barley needed to make whiskey. Local streams supplied the pure water. Which was something most farmers did in the winter but eventually distilling and whiskey making became more organized. One thing that hasn't changed -- the use of local barley and the fresh water from the streams. This is what gives each distillery a distinctive flavors and character. At least, that's what they told us and after two or three samples, I'd believe anything.
