  • Since the closest helicopter was 30 minutes away and the enemy was only 200 yards (180 m) from Myers, Fisher quickly decided to land his two-seat A-1E on the strip and pick up his friend. Under the cover provided by the other A-1s, he landed in the valley, taxied to Myer's position, and loaded the downed airman into the empty seat. Dodging shell holes and debris on the steel-planked runway, Fisher took off safely despite many hits on his aircraft by small-arms fire.

  • On March 10, 1966, Major D. W. "Jump" Myers was hit and forced to crash-land on the airstrip of a CIDG-Special Forces camp. Myers bellied in on the 2,500-foot runway and took cover behind an embankment on the edge of the strip while Fisher directed the rescue effort.

  • @fillopygeesi that door and bubble window was for a radioman on certain models. They would put some poor enlisted sailor in there to monitor either US comms or if he was a linguist he would monitor enemy comms. There was a famous rescue performed of an A-4 pilot when an AD-Skyraider landed on a rice paddy road and loaded up the pilot in that little bubble door...I don't know what would have been worse, getting captured or riding back there not being able to see anything but through that bubble

  • @ 0:21 whats the little door on the side with bubble window for

  • absolutely beautiful. She wants to fly forever...

  • @BillKiernan Do agree, thing looks like it climbs like a homesick angel.

  • @GreatWhite85 hell yeah, best toy ever

  • @BillKiernan Either way... do want :) haha

  • @GreatWhite85 they even proposed re-releasing them into production in the early 80's, that's how badass they were/are. it ended up being too expensive and more cost effective to just develop a new plane, thus the A-10 was born.

  • Beautiful!
