We continue our Blackhat 2012 coverage from Las Vegas by speaking with Josh Thomas (m0nk) about his SPAN project.

SPAN, or Smart Phone Ad-hoc Networking is an open source framework for Android Mesh Networking (MANET) exploration. It allows Android devices to share a single internet connection in times of an emergency when the cellular networks have gone down. If no internet connection is available, then the devices can still communicate amongst each other.

It's a new approach to solving a long-standing issue of communication problems during natural disasters.

For more information please check out m0nk's repository at http://github.com/monk-dot or follow Josh Thomas on Twitter @m0nk_dot
