Made a bracket to attach my outboard to a mates two man kayak, was fun but and pretty quick, but a little unstable as u can imagine. Especialy as the driver had to sit on the back to steer........hehe

  • Do you know about how fast you can go with a 3.3 hp? I have a trolling motor on my yak and i'm thinking about upgrading to a gas engine..

    Thanks !!

  • that was full throtle at the start.....erm i would say a good jogging pace! :o) does depend on the craft though. if i put the same engine on my dinghy, its very much slower

  • DO you think you could put a 6hp engine on the same kayak. or would it be too big. In qld australia we can use up to 6hp without a license. Ive been thinking about doing it. Have you had any problems with it. cheers

  • No harm in trying i suppose. Let me know if u do any vids of it and good luck :o)

  • its 3.3HP not sure on the capacity sorry

  • You should put a counterweight on the front then it wouldn't be unstable.

  • should have just locked the motor and steered with the paddle.

  • Great idea

  • divergps (--- I own Mariner 2 hp 2 cycle engine . weighs 18 lbs ...

    haaahaha

2 cycle weighs less but has more power .

Yes starting is the problem sometimes ...

  • I have a 2 person sit on top kayak with a 2hp Honda (air cooled) - only 27 lbs. It is very stable as the weight is mostly in the lower unit. I mounted it by securing a 4 X 4 with a flat plate in the rear. I get up to 5-6 mph...use it for scuba diving...

  • put a makeshift keel on it and/or try lowering your center of gravity by moving steering controls by attaching some cables to the outboard and using a wheel or stick to control left and right so the driver can sit in the boat not on it.
