To many, Andalucia is synonymous with the Costa del Sol, the aptly named sunshine coast with more hours of sunshine per year than any other holiday area (or so the tourist board says and its hard to argue!). But there is much much more. Away from the coast, perched precariously on the mountainsides are stunning pueblos blancos, white villages changed little since Ferdinand and Isabella reclaimed Andalucia from the Moors and many still dominated by mediaeval castles. Groves of vines, olives, citrus and cork and fields of sunflowers with their bright cheerful heads swaying happily in the soft breeze; flamenco and fiestas, tapas bars and colourful markets, spectacular cities such as Granada, Seville and Cadiz, these are also Andalucia and should not be missed.
In Andalucia and on the Costa del Sol, you really can just be yourself, twelve months of the year.
