Some syndicated versions of My Three Sons 1st color episode feature this stunning alternative arrangement of the opening theme by DeVol (at 0:03 and 0:17 are some wild echoing overtones). In reruns, this opening was only seen (with Don Grady as the only credited "Son") and heard (with this instrumental) on Episode 1 of the 1965-66 season ("The First Marriage"). The remainder of Season 6 in syndication had a different variation of the theme and showed Stanley and Barry Livingston on the credits. For the original network run, this was the first episode aired on CBS (the first 5 seasons were on ABC). After the departure of Tim Considine after this episode, the series continued on with Ernie as the 3rd son for the next 2 seasons. Fall of '67 brought a move to California, and Katie was introduced as Robbie's soon-to-be wife. NOTE: Fair use and education regarding Classic TV history are the purpose of this video posting.
Brings back some pleasant memories; I always enjoyed that show.

This actually sounds like the intro to the 1970-71 season. Hmm

I think when the hallmark channel aired MTS reruns back around 2002 or so, this intro was played. But I believe I might have heard this version's music intro back when it originally aired during prime time on CBS Saturday nights. Possibly from when Beverly Garland joined the cast as Steve Douglas's wife. I will be glad when the color episodes make it to DVD. Long live classic TV!
