Yes Chaka and Joyce both recorded it and I do prefer Joyce's version. Interestingly enough, the song is written by Carole Bayer Sager and Burt Baccarach. Carole's version is interesting. It would be fascinating if these three ladies cut a new version together.

I heard them both. Joyce has no equal with this song, as her version had more soul, more inspiration, and more explored the vocal range a little better. I'm not saying she's a better singer than Chaka, but she did this song better.

I seem to recall Joyce's version being released like a week before Chaka's--& radio stopped playing Joyce's take to play Chaka's; which then sank Joyce's version. Record companies used to do this kinda move all the time back then ;by having a bigger seller cover a song immediaterly rather than later to eclipse the version by the lesser-known singer. It was really a cut-throat, money game back then, like now!
