The movie wasn't made as an adaption after the book. It was a just a movie made up by movie writers inspired by the Monkey King.

this is the most vauge modern film adaptation of the chinese classic novel "Journey to the West". the white kid is supposed to be Xuanzang and Sun Wukong or the monkey king in the novel was trapped under a mountain not sealed in stone. the novel is really complicated and spans 100 chapters so obviously they couldnt fit it in one movie. it was still awesome.
