You have to put in a factor of War because war equals more and more power just like Julius Caesar In war there is usually fear and that prime minister, president etc. will tell them they will reach extreme greatness or something that deals with power and rule and the people unknowingly support it. Not to be ridiculous but in Star Wars, Palpatine who was only a chancellor in the senate made the war happen with the trade federation also believeing for power but he uses the fear in everybody to rule

Yes, the prospect to become a hero is tempting. And group pressure is also strong: "Do not foul your own nest. Are you on the side of the enemy?". Only few withstand this pressure, the fear of being called a coward and becoming a despised outsider is often stronger than the fear to die in a storm attack out of the trenches. That's our evolutionary heritage as a "social animal", the solidarity of the tribe was once vital to survive.

elta, even Hitler knew that a little free market elements was "reality." You are still protecting Lennin.Aristocrats clergy and those labeled rich were murdered by Lennin and his henchmen, that was the predominate order, not the exception. Alexander first instituted the liberal ideas of private property, when he underminded Feudalism and gave the Kulaks private farms. Lennin reversed all that. New Economic Policy was a ruse for the criminal minds who had already purged Russia of capitalists.

We are not so far apart, but you are focussing more on the initial events after the 1917 putsch. Maybe you're a descendant of the many emigrant Russians who fled Bolshevism and flocked the Berlin of the 20s ;-) . Later hardly anybody could escape Stalin's regime.

The initial tragedy was 1914 with the entirely senseless WW I. Without it most probably neither a Bolshevist putsch nor a fanatic conspiracy-theorist like Hitler would ever have succeeded and turned Europe upside down.

I'm not a descendant of Russians, I am well read. I am not connected at all like you are implying. WWI was indeed senseless, and is blamed on Fabian Socialists in Britain who beleived in Empire and world conquest. That and the fact that Bismarck Collectivism was bankrupt, and the Kaiser was trying to save what was left of the German Empire. One collectivist idea to another and another and another. Paternalism is not easily gotten rid of.

Britain and France were least responsible for WWI - it was an escalation between Austria-Hungary, Germany and Russia.

The assassin of Austrian Crown Prince Franz Ferdinand came from Serbia. Austria insisted on an unnecessarily harsh retaliation against Serbia, causing Russia as a traditional ally of Serbia to start mobilizing. And German military advocated a preemptive strike before the Russian war machine had fully mobilized. Combined with naive ideas about glory, heroism and adventure.

I know all about the assasination of arch duke Ferdinand. Let's just explore him for a second. Now think...He's from a Monarchy, ok..we Americans are vehemently opposed to Monarchs, it's in our Constitution. Monarchs collect taxes to pay their living expenses. They do not trade, they are serious collectivists. This is another entire debate. Fact is, WWI was building for a long time. Tariffs, and treaties were in place to protect the Collectivists Empires of the Ottoman, British, French and Germa

ns, and even our own Empire that Teddy Roosevelt invisioned. The clash of Empires was enevitable, it just took a spark and that was the Dukes assasination. The emnity, hate envy had already been built upon, and yes heroics as you mentioned, from people like TR, and Rudyard Kipling, who by the way was a Fabian socialist, glorified wars and empires. The Nazis years later had such high regards for Kipling, that his books were required reading for Hitler Youth and the SS, and Kipling was British.
