Peretz's defenders are his social friends--Walzer--and beneficiaries of his (former) wife's largesse. While carrying on his not-so-secret life as a gay cruiser he spent millions of his (former) wife's money advancing his hateful ideas.

Michael Walzer shows clearly what an embarrassing toady to power he is. To say that unless one has gone through every figure's most obscure footnotes, isn't it hypocritical to withold honors from Peretz (who far from relegating his racist claptrap to footnotes, has publicly paraded this in op-eds and public appearances) is simply grotesque.
