I have one and it would make hundreds of fires before it would start to get worn. Also if it opens in your pocket it's not a problem. You have to squeeze the sides for the contact to be made in order for it to spark.
Thanks for the good video!

also, one bad point is that it can accidentaly open in your pocket.

wow either u have small hands or they improved the sparkie and made it smaller. same with the blastmatch. this or the people on you tube have really small hands.

Found it. It's called Spark-Lite. Basically a lighter without fuel. The sparks start the fire.

Thanks for the quick reply! :) I have seen a different solution which was one handed a few days ago. Unfortunately it didn't work for me as it required the use of fingers so I've forgotten where I found it. And I also forgot the name of it, otherwise I'd link it for you. Sorry. I will check around to see if I find it though. It wasn't as nice as this one, but you might have an interest anyway as you stated in one of your other excellent videos that you liked fire. ;)
Again, thanks!

@tnerf1 No, I've never seen anything like that happen. Of course, if you put it in an open fire, you might have some issues.

This is basically a fire steel with the striker built into the handle right? Are there any difference between brands or products when it comes to this combination? It is pretty basic, rod and striker, so unless you count the ones who add stuff like magnesium, they should all be pretty much the same, right? I've been looking for a tool to start fires even with severe frostbite, and this might be a good product for that. It depends on how hard you have to press with the thumb though(?)

Yes, it is basically a firesteel with a striker built into the handle. I do not know of other companies that make one handed firestarter tools.

do you carry a firesteel in the same size to replace the sparkie's rod when it get used up?

I do carry 1/4" rods. You might have to cut them down a bit, but I'm sure they could be made to work.
