This is an arrange version of Forever Smile by the Japanese band TAM Music Factory. This band makes free MIDIs available on their website: http://www.tam-music.com
This song is also available in MP3 form and on TAM Music Factory's CD album, more information on their website (link above).
Another thing: In case you wonder, I didn't ask permission from TAM Music Factory about using their MIDI files for making FM arranges and I should have done so probably. When reading their usage terms, it's quite ambiguous about that particular usage. Anyway, if one day, they hear one of my arranges, I hope they will like them. If not, I may remove all of them according to their will, if they want me to remove them.
Made by replacing the original GM presets by the following VST instruments or audio tracks:
- 8x VOPM
- 7x FM7 (Native Instruments)
- 10x Yamaha RX11 drum samples
- 6x layers
This one is among their most famous works and is featured a lot in Japanese independent flash animated movies and other kind of works. This time I attempted a different approach from what I did with 花時 (tamsp14.mid). More care have been put into the piano as it do not use as much reverb (too much reverb sounded a little dumb) and the several sounds I chose to layer complete better each other. One sound is louder on bass notes while some others will be louder on other ranges. It still doesn't sound as good as a rompler but as a result it sounds almost like a nice electric grand, which is better than nothing.
Care have been also put into choirs which are for each section a DX7 patch named "M. CHOIR" detuned three times layered with a VOPM patch named "Chorus #5" and detuned twice. the DX7 patch sounded good but was heavily aliased so I applied a bandstop filter to prevent aliasing.
IMHO, I think this arrange sounds even more polished than what I did with tamsp14.mid. I think it gives a really good image of what the Yamaha-style FM synthesis is capable of nowadays, even on acoustic instruments imitation. Some may have a different point of view. If that's the case, just let me know. Also feel free to comment if you have suggestions or remarks about the arrange.

It would sound even lovelier with a real piano rather than a synthesizer. :)

@Interimnity Indeed it would better that way. Here it sounds very cheesy (surprisingly, it still retain its own charm). But the point was to see how good FM synthesis would perform.
