Strange how few renditions of "Lippen Schweigen" get it right.
After all, this aria is not terribly demanding technically.
But it is quite demanding interpretively. That's where many world class singers fall down. Quite a few bulldoze their way through the aria. Exactly wrong.
To do this aria justice, one must insinuate oneself around it. One must wrap oneself around it, the way one wraps oneself around the object of one's desire.
Terfel and Damrau do better than most.

IMHO, this is the best version of "Lippen Schweigen" on YouTube. The connection between these two is utterly fantastic and totally believable. I think that when this is performed the singers should ALWAYS waltz during the instrumental interlude.

This is just awesome...its a good example of German being a very legato language. the interaction between the two is beautiful.
