Before the dravidian movement took roots in Tamil part of South India, Tamil cinema produced music whose peaks have never since been scaled. Papanasam Sivan's lyrics and MKT's singing resulted in numerous superhit songs. MKT was the first superstar of South Indian cinema. This song is from the movie Thiruneelakantar, 1939.

Thiruneelakantar was a devotee in Chidambaram, which houses the famous temple of Nataraja, Hindu dancing icon. Chidambaram is closely associated with Bhakti tradition.

May Lord Nataraja bless all.

  • 1939 as per imdb

  • Do you mean the music of AR Raham and Illayaraja is crap ??

  • learn what Ilayaraja thinks about Sivan.

  • this is a great song with great lyrics. i don't like the disrespectful reference to Dravidian movement. every movement has its pluses and negatives. i have to say things are not any better under the 'dravidian movement' either, so much rowdyism, violence corruption, violation of the civilian laws and rules are rampant these days.

  • truth has to be spoken. dravidian movement was not a benign movement for tamil/hindu civilisation/culture.

  • I agree, Dravidian Movement by that old blind ass is crap..A despicable move to stir emotions and to divide and rule, corruption of believes and true bhakti values..Down with that old idiot!! Let the Tamils unite with the rest of India

  • The sooner Tamizhs realize that dravidian movement was major disaster for Tamizhs - the better. Throw out Rowdy govt of Karunanidhi and his son...what is his name ? Stalin...ahhh...I remember he is a rapist who raped famous TV news reader.

  • Do you have any idea what raga this is in? Thanks!

  • Stop. Take a deep breath.

All languages are a gift from Goddess Saraswathi and our great forefathers have developed the languages to unify us.

Language shoud be used to express Love for one another and Bhakthi.

The evil and narrow minded are not confined to any movement. They feature every where. Ignorance comes in many forms.

Time to heed Guru Gobind Singh's advise:

" Wear a blue turban to remind you to have a mind as broad as the blue skies"

Service to Humanity is service to God.

  • The Golden period of the greats like MKT and Papanasam Sivan. Let the dravidian parties rot in hell for depriving the present generation any chance to bring such divinity into society. Damn them all.

By the way, good work on posting this. God bless you.
