  • @LordDonovan1: I went to Academie Duello. The reason that they have (usually more inexperienced) students not wear the mask is to develop technique - students are forced to go at 1/8th speed in order to perfect technique. It's not really "fighting" per se as much as it is skill grinding, and without the mask we're forbidden to go any faster than very, very slowly.

Though yeah, it does take a lot of self control to keep from speeding up. I've gotten poked in the eye by an over-eager guy.

  • when people approach it with a mature attitude its quite safe. Any mistaken thrust to the head at slow speed is easy to dodge I guess. So losing an eye is unlikely. Its more like practicing than dueling slowly so theyre nit really out to win the engagement

  • Im not sure I understand the concept of not wearing a mask ? Is it because of the slower speed ? Still seems to dangerous I would never allow my students to fight without a mask.
