Jon Vickers sings Cavaradossi's first act aria from Puccini's Tosca.
From Vickers' much underrated Italian Opera Arias CD with the Rome Opera Orchestra and Tullio Serafin.

Sounds like he sang it exactly as written.

Vickers was a force of nature, insurpassable. He performed with every cell and sinew in his body, and what came out of him was more then superhuman, it expanded the human soul. I had the great fortune to sing with him twice. He could terrify you with his temperament, but was only angry or adamant when he was absolutely right about what he was asserting. There will NEVER be a Grimes to beat him, ever. The best.

Agree with sgnmath. He sings it with great care- almost tentatively. He was essentially a heldentenor and a great one.

Misericordia!

Like many other people i've only seen him as an angry otello. a dramatic tenor with huge power and presence. Here i see a different side, beautiful, I cannot think of many other drmatic tenors who could sing piano so convincingly !
