A (short and deadly) session with my little space exploration roguelike prospector. If you got some time to kill and want to try it you can get it here: http://code.google.com/p/rlprospector/downloads/list Works for linux and windows.

  • Editing .gfx : "you" pretty much don't. It's just a palette & 80x25 pixels. got a little code snippet that turns bmps into that, but thats it. Actually, now that i think about it there is not a single reason i didn't use plain ol bmps in the first place...

  • Thanks circular!

The problem with Linux might be that the precompiled version is rather old, and I think i got / and \ mixed up in some places in that one. (and that makes finding fmod hard for it) Your best bet would actually be to get the sources from the google code site, and compile it by hand. (-t 4096 -exx switches recommended)

  • I guess you could say that.

My idea was to make "winning" rather easy. you need to make 100.000 credits wich should take about 4-6 hours. But in that time you propably will not have seen everything.

There are also some missions wich put you well on the way or even beyond victory conditions, so it's your call if you want to attempt them or not.

  • And the great part? He's not anywhere NEAR finished, and the game is already very fun, stable and playable.

    :D

  • Neat!

  • I'll give the hand-compiling a try. BTW how do you edit the .gfx files? I'd be interested to know.

  • Cool game. Just barely got it running! :-)

I downloaded the Linux version but it was actually easier to use the Windows version in Linux (Ubuntu) with WINE. I think it's because FMOD isn't available through the repositories, so you have to hunt for it. Even when I installed FMOD, the Linux version didn't seem to recognize it.

  • Wow... This is THE kind of a space game I always wanted to see to be released as a "space sim exploration". It looks like you've managed to make almost everything needed for a space explorer in a single game. Awesome. I'm heading out to try your new version.

  • Very impressive, heading on over to download it now.

  • Looks like quite an extensive roguelike.
