Hello I used to shoot a recurve bow a couple years ago and in thinking of starting longbow archery. I was wondering if you have to aim, then when your ready to shoot, draw and release. I used to draw the string, aim and then release with my recurve but I'm wondering if longbow archery is different in this way.? Thanks - Joel

I noticed that most people shoot with a lot more canter and leaning forward a little. Seems i do better when i stand straight up and almost have the bow straight up. Maybe its because I didn't line up my body right. Ill have to try this tomorrow. When you said 8-12 grains per pound. Were you talking about the modern arrows or the wooden ones? Thank you for the video i think this may help to improve my performance. I was pretty sure I was doing something wrong. This video may have cleared that up

waste of time

Wow! Great shooting. I just bought my first longbow, I've been shooting a compound for years. Your video helped clear up how to sight it in. I'm shooting too high from holding in the wrong place. Thanks

Thank you for the video. Archery isn't big where I live and I want to learn but I'm basicly stuck teaching myself so videos like this are very helpful.

okay, it's a sweet looking bow, what brand is it??

when i shoot the string keeps grazing my arm...any tips to stop this...am i just holding the bow wrong or is it just unavoidable...
-
i can't shoot like this becasue my arrows do not stay on the string unless i hold them their i have to put the arrow in between my pointer and middle finger to shoot.

Sweet, thanks for posting your videos! Definitely helpful. ♥
Thanks for your videos!
What is that gadget you are using to measure the distance to the target?

@walli77jp Its a rangefinder. You can find them in the optics sections of hunting and/or gun shops.

Hey there, nice video. Very nice steps and they make sense too, so thank you. What is your target made out of? I would like to build something similar

@Medh3ad The frame is mild steel square tubing. The material is a closed cell polyethylene foam. I buy the rejects from a local factory to use as archery targets. Its great for traditional bow targets.
For a longbow I've found two pieces of 50mm thick each are perfect if they're allowed to "swing freely". For a compound bow you need about 6 pieces.

How do you prevent a bow from cracking? I have a longbow and I want to take good care of it, thanks!

Hi,
There are 3 main things you should do to take care of any longbow:
1. NEVER dry fire. A longbow should always have an arrow in when you fire it. Ideally arrows should be at least 8-12 grains per pound of draw weight. (Modern materials can handle lighter arrows than all wooden longbows)
2. Never leave it in the sun. A hot longbow might delaminate
3. Never overdraw. There is a reason longbow weights are measured at 28 inches. Especially all wooden bows!
