We used to visit the Colne House Hotel in Cromer, Norfolk, every year as a family. These images come from Super-8 film and there is no sound. The film shows the hotel grounds and us playing croquet, golf and messing in the pool. We tended to visit during the week of the Cromer Carnival so there was a parade and visits from the White Helmets and the Red Arrows. We also enjoyed the area around Cromer, including trips to the Norfolk Broads.
The Colne House Hotel is gone now. I've set as the location for this video the still remaining main hotel building (which used to be a stately home - not sure who's). The grounds and the main building have been turned into a housing estate.

  • Stayed there each year from 1965 to 1969. I remember children's tea-time in the green hut, and the hotel lawns. Great to see this again. Happy days.

  • Stayed there in 1963-no pool then that I remember but a great holiday. First time I had stayed in a hotel,or drunk Coke. 'She loves You' had just come out!

  • your 8mm film is a real gem... never stayed at the hotel but the flash back to 1970's cromer is a reminder of my own childhood holidays there.. great times and a wonderful part of the world... take my own kids there now, the tradition has been passed on......

  • Awesome cine film, brought back many happy memories! I also used to holiday in Cromer, we went every year, carnival week and the week before, staying at Grange Court Hotel. Now I take my kids back now and then and we stay in a flat in the old hotel! Your holiday could have been mine - carnival day, boat on the broads, up the church tower (good to see the old arcade on th pier, before it blew away in a storm!) Ah lovely memories!

  • great i used to stay here in the 60,s thanks.I take it that this was taken in mid to late 70,s

  • Happy days!! We used to stay at Grange Court Hotel, Cliff Avenue. Cromer was a great place then! Colne House is now a Warden controlled complex.
