Yes, he's a very good player.
There's something in me which regularly rebels against always "correctly observing" directions. Maybe I'm not a good musician, but I will always enjoy "fooling around" with music. I'm terribly sorry about this. I can't help it, but Sor has to live with it ;) ... That does not mean I won't learn more about muting and rests. But omitting rests is harmless compared to some other things I'm doing with old pieces of music ;)

I think you could be an excellent player if you approached it right.
The De La Torre book I mentioned should be required reading for every guitarist. It's also good to read rec.music.classical.guitar on google.
I don't have the equipment to post a vid. However, David Tanenbaum has recorded various Sor, Carcassi, and Brouwer studies. Google search this:
david tanenbaum sor
He correctly observes all rests, and it sounds great. I'd also get Tennant's Pumping Nylon book and DVD.

Maybe you're right with everything. However I often just don't feel like playing rests. Please give me some time with it... BTW, especially with this piece I _tried_ to let the notes ring as long as possible. (I failed at some points, but that doesn't matter...)
I took about 10 guitar lessons at the very beginning and then continued on my own. It's nice to have my own pace.
Perhaps it would be nice if you put up a video with correct rests. The CD of that book doesn't help to make a point here.

(Part 2) Being an amateur doesn't exclude being serious. In fact I'd argue that, as it means being a lover, it demands seriousness. (Seriousness, by the way, doesn't exclude play or fun). I'd recommend that you get a good classical guitar teacher. You can find one through the Guitar Foundation of America. On the left side of their page, go to Connections and click on Teachers. You'll be glad you did. And so will Sor.

(Part 1) I'm also an amateur (in the sense that I'm not a professional). But I'm really an amateur in the original sense of that word; that is, a lover. A lover of music, when he plays music, has a duty to make that music as beautiful as possible. Knowing that Sor's, for example, musical mind was vastly superior to mine, I do everything I can to play his music as he wrote it. I owe him at least this much in return for his beautiful music.

Hmm. I admit I obviously didn't pay so much attention back then. Now when listening the CD again I hear that the playing isn't very accurate. And I still don't really like it. It's the CD coming along with the score book. However I like the book very much because it helped me to learn the guitar (well, at least it helped me to reach my current amateur level which is good enough for me to have some fun ;) )

I'd like to hear that CD. Do you remember what it's called?

i don't think it's too bad actually (i was reading the previous posts). i like the fact that you gave the piece your very own interpretation. you could try some rests but it sounds good the way it is. you're good to be an amateur! :)
