It's ironic how Lex is defending the kents from Lionel, when later on he's the one who takes a lot of interest in them.

No he aint "the villain" but he hasn't been a good guy. He was kinda the Villian the first seasons however, but once he was chosen as a vessel of Jor-El he changed.
Remember he got his parents killed, killed the Veritas guys etc...

He was definitely the villain. What else can you call a murderer and a sadist? And I never bought his so-called redemption either, he never showed any genuine remorse over what he had done to his victims, Lex in particular. He simply changed sides and continued being manipulative and cruel. Lionel as a villain was way more convincing than Lex.

The guy playing lionel (john glover) knew more things about his character at the time then the general public and he didn't believe his character to be evil so why did the interviewer keep asking that question when he already stated his opinion.

Lionel wasn't exactly evil either he was more corrupt then anything.

He was a villain. He did all the stuff that Lex did in later seasons, and worse.
