@meetman3 ??? Texas once belonged to Mexico. In order to develop the area, they invited American immigrants. These immigrants brought their slaves - Though slavery was illegal in Mexico. In order to keep their slaves (though there were probably other reasons too), Texas rebelled against Mexico (included the battle of the Alamo), became briefly independent, then voluntarily joined the US.

I see what apears to be Vietnam Veterans in the crowd who fought and died in South Vietnam so the Vietnamese could have their own country and flag, yet they honor a soldier who denied his fellow countrymen the same right. It hurts no worse to get shot in the chest in Texas fighting for independence than it does getting shot in the chest in South Vietnem fighting for someones Independence. TEXAS Independence!!

Well done Kevin.
As a Navy veteran I have never seen anything so moving as this posted on You Tube. This New York civil war soldier is not known to us. He is known to G-d. He is on his home soil once again. Then as is now we cannot forget that freedom is not free. This young man gave up his life to preserve the union. He gave up a chance to grow old and relish a family. His family that waited for him in 1863 never saw him again. He gave all. Now we finally honor him. He is at peace at last.
