AGN Heating 3D Simulation (rich galaxy cluster; B2)

Advanced hydrodynamical and astrophysical 3D simulation of a jet outflow, generated from an active galactic nucleus at the center of a rich galaxy cluster (10^15 Msun). It was computed with YGUAZU'-A code (in FORTRAN language), in order to study the problem of cooling flow in these cosmological systems.

The video refers to the specialistic thesis of Massimo Gaspari, entitled ''Cooling vs. Heating in galaxy clusters and groups & hydrodynamical 3D simulations with AGN outflows''.

It shows an evolution of the density map (xz plane through center) with the temperature levels and velocity field superimposed. Each frame represents a timestep of 5 Myr; total time of integration is 820 Myr. The box is 100 kpc in size: the central region of a rich glaxy cluster (e.g. A1795).

The model is B2: the feedback of the AGN outflow is self-regulated (B) by the accretion on the BH with an efficieny of 0.001 (2).

This is one of the best models: cooling rate is ~1-10% of the cooling flow standard model; the central temperature, density and SB profiles resembles the observational data (s. thesis); the evolution of the map (in the video) shows the typical X-bubbles and weak shocks (s. Perseus).
