I have this problem too! Warranty ran out 2 months ago, how peachy! But, it only makes this noise when first switching it on and then goes off, I've titled the screen while it makes this noise and it sounds like it's something to do with this, I think, as the sound changes. But, mine doesn't get louder if I adjust the screen brightness :/ I also have noticed that my screen has a dark tinge right down the middle when I first switch it on :/ I hope it doesn't knacker up on me!
I have this exact problem on my core 2 duo 15 macbook pro! Weird thing is that I tried to take off the keyboard bezel, then it doesn't have that sound. But when I put it back on, it does. I'm pretty techy, but still haven't figured this one out. I though it might be the fan buzzing against something, but haven't fully come up w/ a solution.
I have found my Spectrum has the same problem, and it's running slower than usual, and a lot slower than the Mac Pro. I think I might need to upgrade the memory and stop the vibrations. Does anyone know a fix?
This problem happened on my old Macbook Pro. You have an inverter problem, if the first "Genius" guy won't fix it for you ask for another "Genius" and tell them that your inverter is broken. This is why you get that noise at different brightness levels.
@emirilyasov Better hardware and price? Nope! New MacBook Pro 15.4 $2849 2.8GHz Core2Duo 4GB SO-DIMMs 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM nVidia GeForce 9600M GT 512MB of GDDR3 RAM The Dell XPS1530 $2582 2.5GHz Core2Duo 4GB Shared Dual Channel-DIMMs 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM nVidia GeForce 8600M GT 256MB of GDDR3 RAM Apple has MUCH more than $267 in better hardware over the Dell
I have this same problem. I am sending in my MacBook Pro today to have this issue as well as my superdrive repaired. I have the second model of MacBook Pro with the Core 2 2.33GHz CPU and non-LCD backlit screen.

yeah I have that same problem too. I am looking at the MAC site in their FORUM boards to see a possible solution.
Thank god I wasn't the only one.
